Dental Services

After a thorough examination of your teeth, gums & surrounding oral tissues we can determine what treatment options will specifically address the needs for your mouth. We can discuss the health of your teeth and gums. We will attend to any concerns you may have about your smile. Your treatment options will be discussed with you to ensure we meet your needs. If you have any restorations, these will also be examined. X-rays will be taken to detect any issues with your teeth. A treatment plan with dental health advice will then be provided.

SERVICES THAT ARE PROVIDED IN OUR OFFICE INCLUDE:

Digital Radiography: X-rays are an essential diagnostic tool that allows for early detection and treatment of disease in the mouth. We use all digital radiography, which reduces x-ray emissions and gives patients 90% less x-ray exposure. Preventive Care: Our goal is to not just fix problems but prevent future ones from occurring

Regular Checkups– Most children and adults should see their dentist for a regular cleaning and check up every six months. People at a greater risk for oral diseases should have dental checkups more than twice a year. This is determined after a complete exam with Dr. Hinton. Fluoride Varnish– This treatment can be a benefit to both kids and adults. Varnish is a more ideal fluoride option because it contains a higher concentration fluoride that adheres quickly to the tooth and releases slowly over time. Fluoride helps to strengthen the tooth surface making more resistant to dental decay.

Sealants– A sealant protects the tooth by sealing deep grooves, creating a smooth, easy to clean surface. This is an excellent option for patients that are at high risk for dental decay.

Pediatric (Children’s) Dentistry: Good dental health habits should begin in infancy and continue through-out adult life. Our office knows that positive dental experiences early in life will lead to proper and regular dental visits as an adult, and as such we take special care of our young patients.

We use a gentle and caring approach to help children understand and accept their dental experience, while building confidence and trust in our office.

Cosmetic Dentistry: A smile can be the most eye-catching feature of a face. With dentistry’s many advances, you no longer have to settle for stained, chipped, or misshapen teeth. You now have choices that can help you smile with confidence. Discuss your concerns about your smile with Dr. Hinton to determine what options will work for your mouth.

Crown & Bridgework: A full coverage restorative option is often necessary to restore strength and function to a tooth that has had extensive work previously that begins to break down or fracture. It also restores a natural appearance to the tooth. Bridgework is an alternative option to replace a missing tooth in some situations.

Root Canal Therapy: If extensive decay or fracture occurs that involves the nerve of the tooth, root canal therapy will likely be the only option available to avoid tooth loss. Root canal therapy is the process of using small instruments to remove diseased tissue, shape the internal portion of the tooth, and fill this space with a material that allows this space to be sealed protecting it from microorganisms in the mouth. Root canal therapy is a remarkable treatment with a very high rate of success.

Periodontal Disease: Periodontal treatment methods depend upon the type and severity of the disease. Periodontal disease progresses as the sulcus (pocket or space) between the tooth and gums gets filled with bacteria, plaque, and tartar, causing irritation to the surrounding tissues. If the disease is caught in the early stages of gingivitis, and no damage has been done, one to two regular cleanings will be recommended. You will also be given instructions on improving your daily oral hygiene habits and having regular dental cleanings.

If the disease has progressed to more advanced stages, a special periodontal root therapy called scaling and root planning will be recommended. It is usually done one quadrant of the mouth at a time while the area is numb. If the pockets do not heal after scaling and root planning, periodontal surgery may be needed to reduce pocket depths, making teeth easier to clean. At this stage a referral to a Periodontist (specialist of the gums and supporting bone) will be necessary.

Dentures: A denture is a removable dental appliance replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissue. They are made to closely resemble your natural teeth and may even enhance your smile. The process of getting dentures requires several appointments, usually over several weeks.
Highly accurate impressions (molds) and measurements are taken and used to create your custom denture. Several “try-in” appointments may be necessary to ensure proper shape, color, and fit. At the final appointment, Dr Hinton will precisely adjust and place the completed denture, ensuring a natural and comfortable fit.

Complete Denture Sets – A complete denture may be either “conventional” or “immediate.” A conventional type is made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed, usually taking 6-8 weeks.During this time the patient will go without teeth. Immediate dentures are made in advance and immediately placed after the teeth are removed, thus preventing the patient from having to be without teeth during the healing process. Once the tissues shrink and heal, adjustments will have to be made.

Partial Denture Sets– When several, not all, teeth are missing in the mouth a partial denture may be the best option for you. There are many options available now to achieve both a functional and more aesthetic result. Denture Repair– Most repairs can be completed within just a few hours. Contact the office if you are experiencing any concerns about an existing prosthetic or if you are in need of a new set.

Extractions– When a tooth is beyond repair, tooth extraction is the only option to restore health to bone and gum in the area. A failed tooth can be caused by an unsuccessful root canal, periodontal disease, or extensive tooth decay, in which case an extraction can bring relief. Dr. Hinton will use discretion during examination and will refer to a specialist those cases that are a higher risk for complication. Dr. Hinton does not remove impacted wisdom teeth.

Infection Control– To protect our patients from the risk of infection we use the latest in sterilization technique. Feel free to ask a member of our team for a tour of the sterilization area or any questions you may have regarding our sterilization process.
